Absolutely, in fact it is the best time of the year to do a safari for the following reasons.

1. It is not so hot and as such more enjoyable.

2. It is not the rainy season and as such game must go to water holes to drink which increases your chances of seeing game.

3. The bush is generally thinner and one can look deeper in thereby also increasing ones chances of viewing game.

The middle of summer is intolerable in a game reserve, winter is your best bet….enjoy.

It will be cold. Very cold. But depending on where you come from, that may be small fry.

It will also be alot cheaper.

And you will miss most of the other irritating tourists.

    Not a bad idea, methinks.

Winter is the best time to do wildlife spotting for the reasons already mentioned. Cold weather is easier to deal with than hot weather tooa, you can always add clothes but there’s only so much you can take off!

Yes, South African wildlife viewing is usually best in the winter months. Kruger National Park is ideal place for a safari in winter.

Personally, and speaking from experience, I would probably not spend a large amount of money to stay a lodge unless you or your agent can find you a really good price.

If you want to go on safari, then just choose a town/city that you would enjoy staying in, and then just drive in for a day or so to see the animals with the kids. That way you only pay a small park fee and the gas of a rented car.

For an article about what cities are next to parks, for some recommendations, you could read the article I mention in the sourcing section for information. I would recommend Port Elizabeth, but my guess is you are trying to couple this with the World Cup next year, and in which case I would choose Barberton.
